我們常在想該用什麼心態面對未來教育,作設計的都有些浪漫,心裡想的都是幾十年後的風景。
為了延續日漸凋零的臺灣傳統竹工藝,2017年暑假林靖格工作室,邀請三位實習生加入團隊工作,一同展開暑期學習計畫,特別的是,我們替這三位實習生打造不同以往的實習環境。
我們帶著大家深入竹產業的源頭,親身走訪臺灣南投竹山、草屯、田尾、台中等地,參觀竹工廠、與工藝師對談,學習製作的過程、瞭解竹產業的來龍去脈;也安排工作坊,讓實習生透過雙手學習工藝技譜,包含劈竹製作竹片、編織、烤彎等,以不同技法探討各種創作潛力;最後再協助他們創作出自己的作品,並且在實習結束之際替他們舉辦一場名為《器度-以藝為設計,以器為生活》創作展與座談會。
實習生計畫,本質是推廣竹工藝,帶領更多年輕學子投入竹工藝,以培育竹工藝人材的角度,帶領新生代歷經一趟竹藝文化洗禮,傳承同學竹工藝的細節與製作, 在理解媒材的基礎下,以新思維顛覆傳統技藝,挑戰各種竹材創作的可能。
We often wonder what mindset to have when facing the future of education.
Designers tend to be a little romantic — always imagining what the world will look like decades from now.
To help sustain Taiwan’s fading bamboo craft tradition, Lin Ching-Ke Studio launched a summer internship program in 2017, inviting three students to join the team. What made it special was that we created an unconventional learning environment for them.
We took the interns deep into the roots of the bamboo industry — traveling through Zhushan, Caotun, Tianwei, and Taichung — visiting bamboo factories, talking with craftsmen, and learning about the entire production process and the industry’s structure.
They also participated in hands-on workshops to learn traditional techniques such as splitting bamboo, weaving, and heat-bending, exploring creative possibilities through each method.
By the end of the program, each intern completed their own bamboo artwork, and we organized an exhibition and talk titled “The Form of Craft — Art as Design, Vessel as Life.”
At its core, this internship program aims to promote bamboo craft and encourage young students to take part in this cultural field. It guides the next generation through a journey of material understanding and cultural heritage — to reinterpret tradition with fresh perspectives and challenge the creative possibilities of bamboo.
