Qu Er Plate / Bamboo Design

The beauty of bamboo and stone, lightness and heaviness, the rising and the falling.

Bamboo and marble are two significantly different natural materials. It takes three to five years for bamboo to grow, while stone has been deposited for hundreds of millions of years. These two materials encounter on the “Qu Er” Plate, which serves as a metaphor that sometimes what seems soft is strong and tough, while what is hard may be fragile. There is no absolute good or bad between the two extremes.

The design blends traditional bamboo weaving techniques with elegant marble ware and applies the double-coiled techniques, clasping the bamboo container to the marble base. The holistic form is harmonic and consistent, showing the contrasting beautifulness between lightness and heaviness, softness and strongness, warmth and coldness.
